Home Remedies for Tonsillitis

Lemon Juice: Lemon has been an effective natural remedy when it comes to curing tonsillitis. The antibacterial, antiviral properties along with anti-inflammatory qualities that are found in this yellow fruit have bestowed it with the power of treating infection and inflammation. In warm water mix juice of freshly squeezed lemon with one tablespoon honey and a pinch of salt and gulp down this concoction to feel relieved.

Turmeric: Turmeric also has the power to fight back tonsillitis infection. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that help relieve the irritating symptoms. Cinnamon: Cinnamon has been known since long for treating tonsillitis. Having antimicrobial qualities, it prevents bacteria and other microbes from growing in the tonsils and thus helps reducing inflammation, swelling and pain. Sip warm water mixed with cinnamon powder and honey 2-3 times for a few days.

Salt Water:  This is the most common and well known home remedy for tonsillitis. When gargled with salt water, it helps giving instant relief from irritation and pain. While the warm water offers soothing effect, salt helps kill the bacteria or virus.

Basil: Basil has been accounted for its antiviral and anti-inflammatory qualities. It speeds up the healing process and offers soothing effect. Boil 10-12 Basil leaves with sufficient amount of water, strain and drink a few times for three to four days.

Chamomile: Chamomile tea when mixed with lemon and honey forms an age old remedy to treat tonsillitis. Chamomile along with treating symptoms like soreness and pain also known for its relaxing property and thus helps reducing stress and anxiety resulting due to tonsillitis.

Fenugreek: Having antibacterial property, Fenugreek has been claimed as an excellent cure for tonsillitis. Boil fenugreek seed in water. Strain the mixture when cooled and gargle to get relief.
